EU Joins International Chorus Condemning Treatment of Bobi Wine

Last week in Kampala, a coalition of European Union diplomats and ambassadors from Iceland and Norway published a joint statement condemning the violent nature and suspicious circumstances regarding the arrest of several opposition MPs in Uganda. Bobi Wine, a popular Ugandan musician turned MP, was among those arrested, causing Uganda’s recent crackdown on opposition politicians to reach unprecedented publicity.

” The reported brutal treatment of elected members of the Uganda parliament, journalists and civilians, as well as the loss of human life, are very disquieting events,” the Kampala-based EU diplomats said in a joint statement.

“There is no room for repression nor violence in a modern democratic Uganda,” said the statement, also signed by ambassadors of non-EU Norway and Iceland.
