Radio France Internationale reports on the arrest of Bobi Wine in Kampala on Monday after authorities shut down a concert planned for that day.
Attorney Robert Amsterdam spoke with RFI about the arrest and the true motives behind it:
“There is no logical explanation. Just like he does every year around this time, Bobi had prior authorization to play a concert. For various reasons, the police decided to withdraw the authorization, before violently arresting him.”
“The broke his car window and seized him; it was all on film. He was finally released hours later. Right now as we speak, he and his family are under house arrest, with dozens of officers surrounding his home.”
“As you know, the situation in Uganda for political opposition has always been very dangerous. Bobi Wine is the most popular figure in the country, and without a shred of doubt more popular than the dictator Museveni. We can only imagine that with all that is going on in Sudan and Algeria, Museveni must be very worried.”
