Bobi Wine Granted Bail; Vows to Continue Struggle for Freedom in Uganda

Earlier today Kyadondo MP Robert Kyagunalyi, Bobi Wine, appeared in court via video link from Luzira prison for a bail hearing relating to the latest charges he faces of unlawful assembly, which his lawyers describe as fabricated.

Before the court granted him bail on a bond of 1 million Ugandan shillings, Mr. Wine delivered a statement indicating his commitment to continuing the People Power fight.

“If standing for what is right is going to hand me my freedom, I will thank God for it. If standing for what is right is going to keep me in this prison then I will thank God even louder. After all, I have a lot of work to do, even here in prison,” he said.

Acknowledging the bail, his international lawyer Robert Amsterdam thanked international supporters, whom he credits for having helped protect his safety. “He still continues to face a fabricated charge and ongoing persecution by Museveni’s junta. We must remain vigilant and determined to hold them to account,” Amsterdam said.
