Bobi Wine and Supporters Violently Arrested Without Reason by Security Forces

Uganda state security forces arrested and detained opposition MP Bobi Wine and some of his colleagues as they planned to engage in previously authorized voter consultations.

Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, has grown increasingly popular among the Ugandan electorate in recent months as he gears up his People Power campaign to unite his compatriots and ultimately unseat President Yoweri Museveni, the East African nation’s ruler since 1986.

News of Monday’s dramatic arrest included several reports of security forces’ use of teargas against the crowds gathered by Bobi Wine and his supporters, as well as multiple reports of gunfire, though it was unclear whether live rounds or rubber bullets were fired.
