Kyaddondo East MP Bobi Wine was violently arrested Monday on trumped up charges of violating the Public Order Management Act while he was holding a public meeting in preparation for his presidential campaign.
The meeting, held in Wine’s home district of Wakiso, was one of several pre-campaign voter consultations that in December 2019 had been authorized by the Uganda Electoral Commission.
After suffering tear gas and a humiliating arrest, the singer-cum-parliamentarian was taken to Naggalama Police Station for detainment where he remained for several hours before being released.
As usual, these cowards have released us in the deep of the night. These illegal injustices only make us stronger, but most importantly reveal to us how scared the regime is of WE THE PEOPLE.
Stronger. THANK YOU ALL FOR STANDING. Aluta continua. #TeliKuzikiza pic.twitter.com/8x8hFoxDvJ— BOBI WINE (@HEBobiwine) January 6, 2020
